BIO

Miles Boucher, MFA in Performance, BFA in Acting & Directing.

In undergraduate, Miles was a founding memeber of no less than two ongoing theatre companies: OUT LOUD and La Voce: Theatre that Speaks. A regular performer of the mainstage and studio laboratory, Miles prided himself on his astute analytical abilities paired with a passion for acting and teaching. Miles went on to audition and was subsequently accepted into grad school at Wayne State University.

In graduate school, Miles founded The Underground, a student-run theatre that has since become self-governing. As Co-Artistic Director, Miles helped shape the company as a place for students to explore work in ways that were daring and new, pushing everyone to excel all the while fostering community engagement and inter-departmental relations. Now, Miles sits on its Board of Governors as advisor only and is very proud. Miles studied a diverse curriculum including, but not limited to: Meisner, Grotowski, Chekhov, LeCoq, Mask/Commedia, Yoga, Laban, Pilates, and Grotowski.

Miles has spent years honing his craft as a professional actor in rotating repertory with the Hilberry Company, performing, rehearsing, and studying for three years, earning his master's degree. Now, Miles is ready to take his wonderfully eclectic background and teach, perform and direct.

Miles has a strong aesthetic, entrenched in the idea that everyone is a collaborator in the artistic experience. Highly influenced by the teachings of Sanford Meisner, Jerzy Grotowski, and Tadashi Suzuki, Miles aims to create theatrical experiences that transcend the conventional and directly engage audience as participant and witness.

Today:

Miles is excited to be moving into an artist loft in Downtown Detroit in association with Young Fenix Fellowship within walking distance of Eastern Market. Once there, Miles will be producing no less than two shows a season, and has the potential to collaborate with the market on opportunities like an International Buskers Festival. As an artist in residence, Miles is excited to be involved with Young Fenix Fellowship and their mission of social justice.
